RTJ podiums in Wieland Winternationals prelim at Golden Isles
Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series as the Wieland Winternationals roared back to life on the red clay at Golden Isles Speedway in Georgia.
Thornton’s results improved as the week progressed, following a 13th-place finish in Wednesday’s opener with a sixth-place effort on Thursday.
On Friday, Thornton turned in his strongest performance of the week. After finishing second in his heat race, he charged from eighth to third in the 50-lap feature, joining race-winner Jonathan Davenport and runner-up Tyler Erb on the podium.
Thornton wrapped up the Wieland Winternationals with a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s $25,000-to-win finale.
Thornton is currently fifth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
