Ricky Thornton Jr drives to eighth in USA Nationals at Cedar Lake

Ricky Thornton Jr. rejoined the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series over the weekend as Wisconsin’s Cedar Lake Speedway hosted the 38th USA Nationals.

The tripleheader began Thursday with a preliminary feature, where Thornton backed up a heat race win with a solid fourth-place finish in the 40-lap main event.

Friday’s program set the stage for Saturday’s $100,000-to-win finale. Thornton charged forward five positions in his heat to finish fourth, then matched that result in the F.A.N.S. Fund Dash, an event awarding its winner a guaranteed starting spot in the main event.

On Saturday, Thornton earned his way into the 100-lap finale with a consolation race victory, then put his speed to work in the feature, advancing 12 positions to finish eighth.

Extending his race week into Tuesday, Thornton traveled to Boone Speedway for the rescheduled Harris Clash. He retired early from the Modified feature after slipping over the berm but rebounded in the Stock Car main event, passing 13 cars to register a third-place finish.
