Ricky Thornton Jr

RTJ finishes second in One for the Road at FALS

The 35th annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend kicked off early for Ricky Thornton Jr. and the Koehler Motorsports team, as Fairbury Speedway hosted the FloRacing Night in America miniseries’ One for the Road event Wednesday afternoon.

With 66 Late Models in the pit area for what served as a high-stakes tune-up, Thornton outdueled Jonathan Davenport in a thrilling heat race to take the win. He rolled off third in the $20,000-to-win A-Main and advanced one spot during the 40-lap feature, finishing runner-up behind Bobby Pierce, with Davenport rounding out the podium.

As the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series took center stage Friday, Thornton logged a seventh-place finish in his 25-lap preliminary feature, locking him into one of Saturday’s three Last Chance Showdowns.

Thornton earned his way into the $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic on Saturday with a strong third-to-first drive in his B-Main but ultimately chose to retire early from the finale due to rough track conditions caused by recent rainfall.
