Ricky Thornton Jr finishes second in Firecracker 100 at Lernerville

Ricky Thornton Jr. made the trek to Pennsylvania’s Lernerville Speedway over the weekend with his sights set on capturing a third consecutive Firecracker 100 triumph.

Persistent weather forced the cancellation of Thursday and Friday’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series preliminary programs, condensing the weekend’s action into a single-day showdown on Saturday. Thornton kicked off the day by setting overall fast time in qualifying, then backed it up with a heat race win to earn the pole position for the $50,000-to-win main event.

Thornton led the opening lap of the 100-lapper before Jonathan Davenport took control. In the late stages, Thornton surged back to briefly edge ahead and lead lap 85, but Davenport regained the top spot one lap later and held on for the victory. Thornton settled for a hard-fought second-place finish, sharing the podium with Davenport and third-place finisher Max Blair.

Thornton holds a five point advantage over Jonathan Davenport for the lead in the LOLMDS standings.
