Ricky Thornton Jr

Thornton races to Dirt Late Model Dream top-10

Ricky Thornton Jr. was among 84 Late Model competitors who converged on Eldora Speedway Wednesday night for the FloRacing Night in America miniseries event, a mid-week tune-up ahead of the 31st annual Dirt Late Model Dream.

After a blown right-rear tire in his heat race forced him to rely on a provisional starting spot, Thornton salvaged a 22nd-place finish after starting at the tail of the 50-lap feature.

Thornton rebounded on Friday during his Dream preliminary night, outrunning Jonathan Davenport to score a heat race win. In the $30,000-to-win main event, he stayed solidly in contention, driving to a third-place finish behind Davenport and runner-up Brandon Overton.

Returning for Saturday’s $100,000-to-win Dream finale, Thornton raced his way into the 100-lap main event with an impressive fourth-to-second run in his heat. Showing strong pace early, he climbed from 11th as high as second before a mechanical issue around lap 60 hindered his charge. He ultimately held on to finish eighth.

Complete results from the entire week can be found at www.EldoraSpeedway.com.
