RTJ Rules High Bank Heist at Eagle Raceway; Jimmy Owens Wins at Sugar Creek Raceway

Show-Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway Up Next for Koehler Motorsports

MOUNT AIRTY, N.C. (05/21/25) – For the second consecutive week, both Koehler Motorsports drivers—Jimmy Owens and Ricky Thornton Jr.—found their way to Victory Lane.

Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Ricky Thornton Jr. nearly completed a weekend sweep at Eagle Raceway’s High Bank Heist, capturing a preliminary win before securing a $50,000 payday in Saturday’s finale. Meanwhile, in Georgia, Jimmy Owens outdueled National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Shane McDowell to notch his second win of the season.

“It was a great weekend for Koehler Motorsports,” said team owner Bobby Koehler. “Ricky, as usual, has been on a tear, but it’s especially exciting to see Jimmy Owens hitting his stride. Over the past few weeks, it feels like he’s found something, and that could spell trouble for the competition. We’re gaining momentum at just the right time with summer approaching, and I couldn’t be more excited.”

While Jimmy Owens captured a victory on Friday at Sugar Creek Raceway and followed it with a runner-up finish Saturday at Smoky Mountain Speedway, Ricky Thornton Jr. embarked on a four-race swing that began Tuesday with the FloRacing Night in America presented by Kubota at Marshalltown Speedway.

A flat tire cut his night short in Iowa, but Thornton rebounded with a preliminary win in Thursday’s High Bank Heist opener at Nebraska’s Eagle Raceway. Despite a broken steering rack ending his Friday effort early, the Chandler, Arizona native regrouped and delivered a $50,000 victory in Saturday’s finale at the third-mile oval.

“I was big time concerned, anytime you can look over and see the deck messed up, it’s not good,” Thornton said in LOLMDS Victory Lane. “What a racetrack. I tried to slow down a couple of times and I just about wrecked, and I said you know what, I was going to go as hard as I can and if I wreck, I wreck and if not, it wasn’t for trying.”

Koehler Motorsports is preparing for a busy Memorial Day weekend as Ricky Thornton Jr. returns to action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Lucas Oil Speedway. The Crown Jewel Cup continues with a three-day showcase beginning Thursday with the Cowboy Classic, followed by Friday’s Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson, with Saturday’s $75,000-to-win Show-Me 100 finale concluding the weekend.
