RTJ visits Volusia for Sunshine Nationals
Ricky Thornton Jr.’s 2025 Speedweeks campaign continued over the weekend with the rain-shortened Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.).
After wet weather washed out Thursday’s opener, Thornton’s bid for Friday’s preliminary feature fell short with a tangle in his B-Main. A multi-car pileup on the opening lap brought a disappointing end to his night.
On Saturday, Ricky squeezed into the $20,000-to-win Sunshine Nationals finale with the final transfer spot in his B-Main. Pinned on the 12th row, Thornton advanced forward 10 positions in the 50-lap affair to record a 14th-place outing.
