Jimmy Owens opens Speedweeks with sixth-place charge at Golden Isles Speedway
With cold weather pushing back the opener to Friday evening, Jimmy Owens and the Koehler Motorsports team checked into Golden Isles Speedway (Waynesville, Ga.) with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to kick off Speedweeks.
After falling backwards in his heat race, Owens took a provisional starting spot for the $12,000-to-win feature and charged forward inside the Top-10. Jimmy wound up sixth after starting 23rd in the 50-lap feature.
Inclement weather and an unfavorable forecast forced track and series officials to cancel the final two rounds of the Super Bowl of Racing on Saturday and Sunday.
