Thornton finishes third in Pittsburgher prelim at PPMS
Ricky Thornton Jr. reunited with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Friday at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway (Pittsburgh, PA) to officially kick off the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship with the two-day Pittsburgher.
Following the fastest lap in his 19-car group, Thornton vaulted into Friday’s preliminary feature with a heat race triumph. With a $10,000 payday up for grabs, Ricky rolled a third-place finish. He joined Devin Moran and Jonathan Davenport on the podium.
On Saturday, Ricky’s runner-up heat showing positioned him on the third row for the $50,000-to-win Pittsburgher. Staying consistent throughout the 70-lapper, Thornton steered to a sixth-place finish.
Ricky is currently tied for second in the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship playoffs.
