RTJ charges to fifth in Peach State Classic at Senoia
Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to action over the weekend, taking his Koehler Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model into battle at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway for the FloRacing Night in America presented by Kubota miniseries season finale.
Friday’s Peach Bowl opened the doubleheader, and Thornton started the weekend on solid footing with a third-place finish in his heat race. His momentum was cut short in the feature, however, as left-front damage forced him to retire on lap 38.
Thornton regrouped on Saturday and secured the final transfer spot in his heat to earn a spot in the $30,000-to-win Peach State Classic. Rolling off from the seventh row, he worked forward throughout the 75-lap finale, advancing eight positions to record a strong fifth-place finish. He trailed Jonathan Davenport, Ryan Gustin, Hudson O’Neal, and Tyler Erb at the checkers.
Thornton finished fourth in the final FloRacing Night in America point standings.
