Ricky Thornton Jr. attends World of Outlaws World Finals
Ricky Thornton Jr. took on a demanding schedule this past week, beginning with a two-day Winged Micro event at North Carolina’s Millbridge Speedway before capping the stretch with double duty at the 19th annual World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Thornton’s outing at Millbridge opened on Monday but was cut short after he was collected in a first-lap pileup. He returned for Tuesday’s program but scratched from competition following his heat race.
Shifting focus to the World Finals for the remainder of the week, Wednesday through Saturday, Thornton piloted the Koehler Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model and recorded a weekend-best sixth-place finish in Thursday’s feature. Mechanical issues hampered his efforts on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to his Late Model duties, Thornton also climbed aboard the Indy Race Parts No. 71RT Sprint Car for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series finale. He finished eighth and ninth in Last Chance Showdowns on Thursday and Friday before scratching from his C-Main on Saturday after heat race action.
